Chardonnay is pretty feminine, but she usually likes her comfy clothes. She's a country girl, having lived on a farm before officially moving in with her stepfather Edward, and she would like to claim she is a "Southern Belle."
Donnay, while she definitely has her mother's good nature, is headstrong and stubborn. She's also got a really bad temper, which on a bad day, doesn't take long to set off. While she seems to be very self-centered, she does try to think about others before herself, and often times, it's because she cares that she loses her temper. Chardonnay also suffers from anorexia nervosa, although she refuses to admit it, and tries to cover it up with the excuse she's just "always dancing."
Aimee Jones had originally planned on staying in her home state of Michigan, becoming perhaps a makeup artist or hair stylist, but instead, two months before graduation, changed her mind. She broke up with her boyfriend and decided to go to Loyola in Illinois for an undergrad in pre-law. There, she met Martín Garcia - the seriously sexy, mysterious, and handsome man who seemed to appear out of nowhere. Aimee, blinded by love, followed him to New Orleans and he agreed to marry her. They lived there for a few years, before Aimee decided to open up a firm in Birmingham, Alabama. During the move, Aimee discovered she was pregnant with a little girl.
Immediately, Aimee became a doting mother. She enrolled Chardonnay in dance classes when she was two, and even when she was pregnant with her younger brother, Gonzalo, Aimee and Chardonnay were as close as you would expect them to be. Aimee tried to raise her daughter with the "good old Southern Belle" stereotype, but it was evident her daughter was headstrong, just like her father. Her father, meanwhile, spent almost every night at the casino with a new woman, and became addicted to cocaine. Aimee began to suspect something when it appeared her husband was low on cash. Aimee began to worry about his absence from their children's lives, but when she realized he was cheating and lying to her, wasting money out at the casino every night, she confronted him about it. They had a fight, which he tried to hit her and threatened to stab her with a knife. Aimee immediately grabbed some bags and packed a few things for her and the kids. She left the house, renting a hotel room. She filed for divorce, called her parents, and then moved her kids up to Hell, Michigan, to be closer to family. Chardonnay was five, and her non-existant relationship with her father really hurt, as she felt she was the reason he never wanted to be around. She adjusted well, regardless, and was overjoyed when her mother brought a new man home.
Chardonnay continued to dance, and through her classes, made two best friends: Amanda Horvat, a bubbly and energetic girl, and Jetta Peterson, who was as sweet as they came. The three girls became their own little group, often times spending every moment that they could together. Jetta, while she obviously worked just as hard as Chardonnay, never was really at her skill level. Chardonnay had dreamed of being a ballerina when she grew up, and everyday was found working on skills and choreography to improve herself. Jetta became envious of the attention Donnay received in class, but never said anything. Chardonnay's new goal was to be the youngest member of the studio's competitive dance company ever, and at the age of twelve, auditioned for the upcoming season. Because of her work ethic and talent, they allowed her to join, but did not take Amanda and Jetta, who also tried out with her. Amanda was thrilled for Donnay, knowing she wasn't at the same level, but Jetta became enraged. The two had a huge fight, and when Amanda refused to pick a side, Jetta decided to make things simple, and broke off her friendship with the two. Chardonnay, as a result, began to reach out to Migdalia, who was in her class, and began a friendship with her instead, although she was still bitter due to Jetta's departure.
Chardonnay began to work hard, but began to realize that many of her idols didn't seem to look like her. Chardonnay worried she was gaining too much weight and began to try and monitor what she ate. Her mother became distracted during this time, as her old high school sweetheart, Edward Poms, had proposed to her and she threw herself into wedding planning. Using this as an excuse, Chardonnay offered to come and work out with her mom, keeping her company as she tried to lose a few pounds before the wedding. Aimee agreed. Chardonnay tried her very best to eat very little and work out, but the moment she fainted during the rehearsal dinner, Edward put a stop to it. She has since on-again, off-again struggled with her weight, doing anything from juicing to diet pills to lose the weight. Edward wanted to get her to a specialist, so that they could confirm her anorexia nervosa, but Chardonnay refused, and Aimee didn't press the issue, as it seemed Donnay was eating.
Freshman year, Chardonnay Garcia heard from her friend, Amanda, that Xavier Straight had a huge crush on her, and he began to flirt with her. Chardonnay always saw Xavier since his arrival a year ago as a teacher's pet, or some bimbo, and began to think of ways to repel him. She decided the best way was to tease him and bully him. Xavier backed off, but Amanda later informed her that Xavier still liked her. Chardonnay took her teasing to the next level, hitting him where it hurts, and the two ended up exchanging words, which led to an actual fight. After being suspended, Chardonnay was forced to apologize to him by Edward, and when she went over to his house, began to speak with him on a more personal level. After a while, they agreed to date. Chardonnay, however, was a less than ideal girlfriend, and often times emotionally manipulated Xavier to get what she wanted. She also refused to tell anyone, mostly because she was ashamed. Xavier drunkenly told mutual friend, Saeran Maguire, and her stepbrother, Josiah, and after Josiah lashed out on her for witnessing her mistreat him, Chardonnay and Xavier had a fight, which led to Xavier breaking up with her. Even though Chardonnay acted like everything was fine, it wasn't. She spiraled out of control, and realized that she wanted Xavier. She approached him three months later, begging for him back, and when he agreed, she worked to make this relationship different.
